NSW confirms case of community COVID transmission

NSW has a new community-acquired coronavirus case, its first in weeks.

The man, who is in his 50s, is described as having been “very active” in Sydney’s inner-east in recent days.

His positive diagnosis was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon and he is thought to have been infectious since last Friday.

“The three of us were literally in a health meeting … to be advised we have a case of community transmission in NSW,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

NSW Health is using venue QR codes to trace the man’s movements.

He had not been overseas, or worked in Sydney’s hotel quarantine system. However, they fear he might have had contact with people from interstate before he caught the virus.
